Girlguiding UK: Changing the World

Changing the World logoGirls + action = Change

Girlguiding UK has teamed up with 19 fantastic partner organisations – 18 charities and the Girlguiding UK Branch Associations – to create 19 different projects for girls and young women to change the world.

You’ll probably recognise most, if not all, of our charity partners. Each is a respected organisation working to make a difference. What’s more, every single one has jumped at the chance to change the world with YOU!

Our 19 partners are:

  • Asthma UK
  • Barnardo’s
  • Book Aid International
  • British Red Cross
  • Camfed
  • Crisis
  • Friends of the Earth
  • Help the Hospices
  • Kidscape
  • Mental Health Foundation
  • The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS)
  • Plan UK
  • The Railway Children
  • Save the Children
  • UNICEF
  • WaterAid
  • The Woodland Trust
  • WWF
  • Girlguiding UK’s Branch Association.

Each partner has created a special Changing the World activity pack. Each activity pack is unique to Girlguiding UK and will provide fun for you guiding units while challenging them to change the world through community action. We’ve made sure that there is something for everyone, from Rainbow units to Trefoil Guild groups and for all occasions, from simple effective actions 'you can do' in your meeting place to more adventurous campaigns. Each project will take a minimum of four weeks to complete but you can take it much further if you choose to – it will challenge you to do something different maybe go somewhere or hold an event!

How does it work?
  • In September’s guiding magazine every Leader will have received a catalogue of projects which includes a poster and information on how to take part.
  • Girls will use the poster and catalogue to decide together which challenge/s they wish to take up. You can select more than one. Use this catalogue and the poster provided in your decision-making with your group.
  • The Girlguiding UK: Changing the World website has an online catalogue and more details about each of the projects.
  • When a choice has been made you can download your selected challenge packs.
  • Have a good look at the activity pack and plan how it will work best for you, the girls, the members of the leadership team and the facilities that you have.
  • Take action – that’s the fun part!
  • When you’re done visit the website and record your action. Please let us know everything you’ve done so that we can create an accurate record of how our members are changing the world.
  • Send for your unique Changing the World badges and celebrate your achievements!
